Faith, Hope and Charity were common themes in Victorian England, and often showed up as an a cross, heart and anchor. The anchor stands for Hope, the reference is from the New Testament. "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain..." - Hebrews 6:19.

This is a fantastic pendant, the black onyx and creamy white pearls provide a fabulous pop of contrast, the pearls are beautifully matched and just sublime, the anchor and cross are set with sparkling rose diamonds, showing the workmanship of a skilled goldsmith. There are 21 little diamonds and 74 pearls in all. This pendant measures 47 mm north to south including the bale and 21.4 mm across, it ’s 7.3 mm thick. The pendant is unmarked but has been tested as 15 karat gold. Made in England, around 1880.
