If you were a Victorian lady of a little means, you would slowly build up a selection of sterling silver jewelry over time. You would need cuff bangles, one on each sleeve if you will. You would need earrings if you had pierced ears, not everyone did. You would certainly need an interesting collar and at least one locket or bauble to hang from it. A collar like this one would be extra nice, it’s a particularly luxurious version.
This beautiful Victorian sterling silver collar necklace was fully handcrafted in England in about 1880. It features two rows of reposed beads with an additional inner row of small shiny beads and an outer edge of engraved floral tabs. This collar is wide and heavy and most definitely at the top of its class. The necklace measures 17.5 inches long and 24.3 mm wide, it is unmarked but has been acid tested to verify the metal content; it weighs 38.1 grams. It has a large jump ring which can be worn at the back or at the front to hold a locket (we have those, too!).
In Victorian times, this fantastic collar would have been the envy of all your friends, as it still can be today.
