A note from Victoria: When this ring was made, in about 1910, the center stone would have been called a Ruby. According to newer, 20th century, jargon, this ring actually qualifies as a pink sapphire. These two gems composed of the same elements and these days we define them only by depth of color. I usually use the term 'ruby' which is the currently acceptable name for this gem in Europe, where I purchased this ring, and is what it would have been called when it was originally made and sold. The pink color of this gem would be referred to by American GIA as a pink sapphire.
