Victorian Enameled 15k Gold Locket, Dated 1867

  I bought this lovely locket in Amsterdam, but it was most likely made in England.  I just fell in love with the wonderful design, a greek key motif and cross in rich dark blue enamel against a background of beautiful detailed engraving.  

  This handcrafted locket is inscribed on the back with the initials ‘EB’ and ‘Aug 1867’.  The inside has two frames but no glass.  The locket tests as 15 karat gold, while the top jump ring and inside frames are in 9 karat.  The locket measures 33 mm (1 1/4 inches) long and 21.7 mm (7/8 inch) and is 6.1 mm thick; it weighs 4.7 grams.  Made in England around 1867.
