Antique Natural Color Change Sapphire Diamond Ring French Platinum

True story, I was having drinks with my girlfriends one night and they wanted to look at some jewels. Being the obliging sort I pulled out some rings for them to play with. The rings were a grouping that we’d been photographing for Instagram earlier in the day. One of the rings, that had looked blue in the afternoon sunlight, appeared violet in the incandescent light we now sat under drinking our wine. I’d owned this ring for awhile and only at this moment did I realize that this was a color changing sapphire. I had trouble believing it was even the same ring!

Hand crafted in about 1920, this Belle Epoque platinum ring was made in France and is set with this incredibly cool gem; a rectangular cushion cut of sapphire that weighs about 5.16 carats. The sapphire is a natural, unheated color change stone, it has some natural inclusions that can be seen with the naked eye. The setting is a slight boule style mourning with cut outs in a foliate design and millgrain accents throughout. The setting holds 24 Old European and single cut diamonds that add up to 0.41 carats in diamonds. This ring measures 20.0 mm north to south and 17.7, it sits 8.3 mm off the finger and narrows to 1.5 mm at the back of the band. The ring is marked with the French import Mask mark, used to denote platinum. This size 7.75 ring weighs 5.6 grams.
