This exquisite Albertina bracelet, with its finely woven chains and sculptural terminals, speaks of a time when even the smallest details were imbued with artistry. Handcrafted in England circa 1880, this bracelet started out life as a ladies watch chain, to be worn in the vest pocket. A man's watch chain was often called an Albert chain, and thusly this one is referred to as an Albertina. While Alberts make excellent necklaces, the Albertina is the perfect length to be worn a bracelet. This one measures 8 inches in length and weighs 11.6 grams. The central enamel plaque is 12.9 mm by 24.5 mm, with a depth of 4.4 mm, framed by engraved silverwork that echoes the floral motif. The sturdy Albert clasp and detailed finials hint at its origins as a cherished watch chain, later transformed into a bracelet for an era that still valued sentiment in adornment. The worn hallmarks appear to include a lion passant and a lowercase "n," alongside the maker’s mark "HB&S," a testament to its heritage.
