Antique Double Albert Watch Chain Necklace in 9k Gold Dated 1912

$ 6,800.00

I like to refer to the double Albert watch chain necklace as ‘the little black dress of jewelry’, in silver or in gold, this look is at once timeless and contemporary. Originally made in the Victorian and Edwardian eras to hold a pocket watch and watch fob, this style of necklace is still made today in a myriad of forms. Dress it up, dress it down, it’s as comfortable with jeans and a tank as it has always been with a three piece suit.

This version of the golden watch chain is made of the classic curb link, it’s graduated on both sides and centered with a golden T bar, which would originally have been worn through a button hole. The chain is marked with the hallmarks that show it was made in Birmingham, England in 1912 of 9 karat gold, it has the anchor, date letter 'n' and a makers mark DB and is further marked ‘9’ and ‘.375’ for the gold content on every link. The chain is a great wearable length at 16 inches and it weighs in at a hefty and luxurious 60.9 grams. The back closes with two dog ear swivel clasps and the front has an extra link to hang a second fob.

An essential component of every jewelry box, the gold watch chain is the piece you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again and again.
