Georgian Chalcedony Fob Seal Pendant Memorial Weeping Willow
$ 1,780.00
The Weeping Willow, a tree unto which we have attached the human condition. For, does a willow truly weep? Does it wail always, stuck in a perpetual sadness? Perhaps the Georgians (and later the Victorians) truly thought it did, they certainly used it often in their art as deeply symbolic of grief and sorry, perpetually bent over a grave or urn, perpetually mourning.
This amazing and quite large fob is set with a beautifully carved seal showing a weeping willow; it is bent over a plaque carved with the initials ‘HB’, while a dove with a branch in it’s mouth flies nearby. The mount for this gorgeous seal is beauty in simplicity, a simple yet striking one done in solid 9 karat gold. The large carved seal is done in white chalcedony and measures 30x26.3 mm, the fob overall sits 45 mm high, the face measures 33.5 x 29 mm, it weighs 10 grams. This unmarked piece has been acid tested for purity.
This large fob would look great on a chain or even a ribbon, but put it on a great old watch chain and you’ll really have something that will garner compliments and start conversations.
