Edwardian Love Knot Ring 18k Gold Chester 1906

This style of ring was very popular between lovers in the latter days of the 1800s and the newer days of the 1900s. These rings were engraved with hearts, flowers, scrolling motifs, forget-me-knots for remembrance, ivy to show that ‘i cling to thee’, and sometimes just were made of just smooth gold, either way the knot was an extremely symbolic motif of love in England; an island with deep nautical roots.

This particular love knot is decorated with hearts and flowers deeply carved into its face. The ring was made in 18 karat gold, it’s a wide one, 10.7 mm north to south, narrowing only to 6.3 mm at the back; and as a wide ring it will fit about a half size smaller than its true 6.75 size. The ring is fully hallmarked, the marks show that it was made in Chester, England in 1906 of 18 karat gold, it has a makers mark of ‘B.H.J.’. This ring weighs 9.5 grams.
