– Sold OutIn my 25 plus years (oooo…makes me sound old!) or so of buying antique jewelry in England I’ve seen thousands and thousands of gate bracelets of all shapes and sizes, all different patterns, karats and colors, but I can honestly say that it was a first when I came across this amazing jewel, not a gate bracelet but a full gate collar. I admit it, my heart did a full on pitter patter.
This wonderful Edwardian jewel was hand made in England in about 1900-1910 of 9 karat gold. Like the gate bracelets of the time, this wide collar was called a gate because the links were reminiscent of the fancy ironwork that covered London at the end of the 19th century. This collar measures 22.3 mm wide and is 3.6 mm deep, it is marked with ‘9ct’ for the gold and makers mark of ‘J.G.’. This collar is 13.5 inches long and is not a necklace but a proper collar, made to worn slightly up the neck, it weighs 44.6 grams. Stunning. Simply stunning.
