Antique Ruby and Diamond 3 Stone Bypass Ring in 18k Gold and Platinum

Folklore tells us that rubies hold the power to kindle desire in one’s heart. They are still considered the gemstone of passion, courage, and adoration. In the 17th and 18th centuries, diamonds and rubies were fashionable as a pair, because together they symbolized both eternity and love. The charm of both a ruby and a diamond on one ring? Well, frankly my dear, you’re wearing a ring of the utmost power to beguile, to style, and to love. 

This darling antique ruby and diamond ring was handcrafted around 1910. The shape of this elegant piece is that of a bypass ring, which was popularized during the Victorian Era and symbolizes two souls coming together. The stone settings are made in platinum, while the shank, shoulders, and base of the ring face, are 18 karat gold. The center ruby is a pinkish red color and measures 4.4 x 4.4 x 2.9 mm and weighs about .4 carats. It is surrounded by two glittering Old European cut diamonds, each measuring 4 x 4 x 2.5 mm and weighing approximately .25 carats for a half carat of diamonds in total. The face of this ring measures 7.2 mm north to south and 13 mm across, it sits 5 mm off the finger. This piece is hallmarked with ‘18CT’, indicating the gold purity content, and the word, ‘Plat’, for platinum. This ring weighs 2.5 grams and is a size 6.  

This piece is either English or French, it’s hard to pinpoint. Of course, it could be from anywhere and I’d still adore it just as much! And honestly my darling, so will you.
