Victorian Large Scottish Silver Granite Dirk Brooch Pin c. 1880
$ 980.00
Aberdeen sits at the mouth of the River Dee on the eastern coast of Scotland. The region has seen human activity and settlement for nearly 8000 years. Which is just astonishing. In more recent times, it’s been mined for its uniquely sparkly pink and grey granite.
This c. 1880 Scottish sword brooch, referred to as a Dirk, offers a lovely example of this high mica content granite. The whisper thin polished grey granite blade extends out of the pink granite hilt. Both are encased in decoratively engraved sterling silver. This beauty goes on for 112 mm and is 27 mm in height and is 11mm deep. It weighs 19.1 grams and bears no marks.
Symbolic of strength and endurance, the polished granite accentuates the brooch's rugged beauty, connecting it to the Scottish landscape.
