Silver Victorian Heart-Shaped Agate Pendant

There are many theories about the origins of the heart shape and its relation to love. Some say it comes from the shape of the seed pods of the Silphium plant, a key component of Roman love-potion, some say it started with the shape of woman buttocks and indeed it was often shown upside down up through the 14th century. However it got its shape, one thing is sure, it’s been associated with love for millennia.

This simple Victorian heart pendant is set with a smooth heart shaped cabochon of agate and was hand crafted in about 1900. It measures 49 mm north to south including the bale and 30.5 mm across, it’s 9 mm thick and weighs 13.9 grams. This beauty is unmarked but tests as sterling.
