Silver Victorian Collar Necklace with Hanger 18 inches long

Victorians loved jewelry, but they didn’t always have the means to have a lot of it, so they crafted pieces which  could be worn a myriad of ways. Collars like this one are an excellent case in point. Wear it with the clasp in back and engraved side up for a fancy choker, engraved side down is smooth and a bit more casual, use the extra bit for extra length if the outfit dictates; turn it around and hang a locket or pendant off the lovely matching drop and you have a necklace fit for a ballgown. Any way you wear it, it promises to garner interest and lots and lots of compliments.

This fantastically designed collar was hand crafted in the Victorian era in about 1880. It has a fantastic soft velvety feel to it and the links roll smoothly so that it lays perfectly flat on the contours of your neck. It is 17.5 inches long and the extra bit adds an inch and a half. The links are about 5/8 of an inch wide and the collar weighs 47.5 grams. This one is unmarked as most Victorian collars are, it tests as sterling silver.

Collars like this one were de rigor daywear for the Victorian lady and are just as wearable and versatile today as they have been ever since!
