A pearl is neither a rock nor a mineral, but make no mistake, it is most definitely a gem. In fact, pearls rank as amongst the most popular gems in the world. They come in many shapes and sizes, but round has always been the most sought after. This gem of the sea has a glow and a luster that is the stuff of legend.
This Victorian ring was hand crafted in about 1880 and is set with five large pearls in a row. The gems graduate to either side with the center pearl being a very bright luminous white pearl of 5.5 mm and the four pearls on either side of the center are gray in color and measure 5 and 4.5 mm each as they go. The face of this ring measures 5.6 mm from north to south and 21 mm across, it sits 5.4 mm off the finger at the highest point and narrows to 2.9 mm wide at the back of the band. This ring is beautifully crafted in 18 karat gold and while unmarked, it has been carefully acid tested. It’s a nice, weighty ring at 4.2 grams and is a size 6.25.
