Large Victorican Silver Paste Feather Brooch

$ 252.00

– Sold Out

Feathers have long held multifaceted symbolic meanings. They were associated with royalty, nobility, warriors and knights. They’ve been prized for their beauty and elegance in fashion and decorative arts. They were once used as tools for writing, and thusly have symbolized intellect and communication. They are linked to faith and divinity, featured in folklore and mythology, as well as occasionally being regarded as omens or signs of luck.

Handcrafted around 1900, this exquisite silver and paste feather brooch fits neatly into any of the symbolic meanings listed above. Adorned with shimmering paste stones, it sparkles with an ethereal radiance. This 92 mm long and 46 mm wide feather caught in the breeze, weighs 35.1 grams, simultaneously defying its generous size. A partial hallmark remains and is believed to read “197”. It has been tested as silver.

Truly a sparkly treasure from another era, this feather brooch is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and elegance. Its large size lends it to looking beautiful in the hair.
