To the Victorians, the buckle represented eternity. A buckle wraps around itself and secures itself tightly in place; it’s strong, sturdy, and never-ending. Sometimes, a buckle, such as the one featured on this ring, is also a garter, representative of the most prestigious order in England, The Order of the Garter. It was established by King Edward III in 1348, and still holds strong today. It’s an order of chivalry and of honor.

This antique Victorian buckle memorial ring was handcrafted in England in 1887. It begins as a beautifully engraved 18 karat gold band with a traditional buckle motif. Then it opens, revealing a ring of intricately woven hair, showing off spectacular skill, making this masterpiece a memorial ring. It has been fully hallmarked as it bears the crown mark for England, the gold purity mark, “18”, the mark for Chester, and the date letter, “D”. This ring weighs 4.2 grams and is a size 6.5. The ring width is 5 mm off the finger.
