A clockmaker named Christopher Pinchbeck worked on Fleet Street in London, where he made clocks and musical instruments for the wealthy. In 1720 he created a metal that was named after himself. It looked like gold, and acted like gold, and yet was not gold. Pinchbeck was a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. His wonderful creation was used in jewelry of all sorts, including jewels worn in stagecoaches, where theft was high, and in this beautiful pair of antique earrings.
These antique Victorian pinchbeck and paste drop earrings were handcrafted in England around 1880. They’re a stunning pair with faceted paste that resembles garnet, set in a floral motif. Overall, each earring measures 61 x 15.7 mm and together they weigh 8.1 grams. They have been acid tested.
Making statements and meaning it isn’t always an easy thing to do. These earrings help. I swear.
