Antique Cut Steel Earrings with Silver Wires

$ 392.00 $ 490.00

Made to mimic diamonds when worn by candle light, cut steel had a following and appeal all of it's own, and even out priced gold jewelry for a time. Originally, cut steel was made from the old horse shoes which littered the streets of Britain. Each small steel bead would be laboriously hand cut and polished and then riveted onto a back place in the desired shape of the piece.

These wonderful cut steel earrings are likely made of old buttons or buckles that were created in England in the mid-1800s. The original brass plates are connected by and hung from silver wires. The earrings are 42.6 mm long and 11.7 mm wide and weigh 4.8 grams together.
